House Rules

NSHU Elder Dragon Highlander House Rules

Official Rules, no purchase required

Upon winning two NSHU sanctioned EDH games, the wining player is ordained with the responsibility to ammend or replace one of the five NSHU house rules. Absent what is specifically noted below Regular Commander Rules apply.

  • One free mulligan on your draw step.
  • No commander damage.
  • Proxies must be hand drawn and use at least 3 colors.
  • Players of Non-English cards must be able to prove their name and rules text match with an English card.
  • Blaire’s Rule (1/6/2018) At the beginning of each player’s 1st draw step of the game that player will have two options which will apply regardless of any mulligans they have taken: Option 1: Draw a card (as usual), or Option 2: Scry 2

Rules we forget about but are fun sometimes:

  • Dean’s Rule (12/21/2017) If a player is knocked out of the game and their turn comes up, they may roll a D20 or a equivalently randomized 20 sided object (ER20SO). If they roll a 20 or a symbol equal to 20 they may re-enter the game at 20 life with the same hand and board state as when they died. This rule only applies if all players currently active in the game have 20 or more life.
    1. Pete’s Modification (1/6/2018) Prior to rolling the D20 or ER20SO the player may wager an integer between 1 and 20. If they roll a number equal to or higher than the wager they may re-enter the game with a life total equal to 20 minus the amount wagered. For example, if they wager 10 and roll a 10 or higher, they re-enter the game with 10 life.
  • Jeremy’s Rule (2/3/2018)If there are 5 or more players currently alive in the game, each player’s only opponents are the living players seated directly to the left and right of that player. The other two (or more) players exist as if in a separate game and are not targetable (nor are their objects or zones), not attackable, are not included in your “all” or “each” effects, their static and triggered abilities have no effect on you, nor do those abilities trigger as a result of your actions or steps, and they do not gain priority during your turn.

Roll Back Rules Interpretation

The Roll-Back rules have been subject to varying interpretation. Some intuit that wagering lower numbers should be easier, others that higher numbers should be easier to hit.

Pete’s Roll: Name a number and try to roll at or under it.

Dean’s Roll: Name a number and add your roll to it, the sum must exceed 20.

Jeremy’s Roll: Name a number and try to roll over it.

NSHU Roll-Back Machine

The following is a script which simulates the thought process of the three main schools of thought. You can use it to understand each interpretation before making your roll-back on a physical ER20SO, or (at the consent of your playmates) just use the machine to roll-back.
